Application of conductive rings in lifting equipment

The development and use of cranes in the market are becoming more and more widespread. Nowadays, many projects require the use of lifting equipment: machinery, metallurgy, chemical industry, mining, forestry and other enterprises are often seen in human life. Hoisting equipment has Repeated working methods, multi-action lifting machinery that can vertically lift and horizontally carry heavy objects within a certain range through hooks, can powerfully replace human power, and can complete lifting and horizontal movements smoothly and safely.

Cranes have the following categories: Lifting equipment can be divided into many types: truck cranes, cantilever cranes, traveling cranes, gantry cranes, tower cranes, etc. Many equipment in cranes need to use slip rings for transmission, such as truck-type cranes. Slip rings need to transmit power, throttle control signals, and light signals. Some lifting equipment also has requirements for a range of rotation angles. Usually the power line current is 30A to 40A, we use 2.5mm² and 4mm² wires; the transmitted signal needs to use a dedicated signal line; when the angle is limited, an angle sensor needs to be used for control.

Common Applications for Slip Rings in Crane Technology:

  • Tower cranes
  • Bucket wheel excavator in opencast mining
  • Mobile cranes
  • Cable reels for gantry and harbour cranes
  • rotating superstructures fire engines
  • Excavator in construction
  • Pillar jib cranes
  • Attachments for cranes (jibs and grabs)

Advantages of slip rings in crane technology

  • Compact size, easy installation, high reliability and long operating time
  • Transmission of fieldbus signals: Profibus, Profinet, CANopen
  • Data transmission via optical fibre
  • Up to IP68, suitable for use in dusty and exposed environments
  • noble contact materials, high conductivity, low starting torque
  • shock-resistant design, can also be used with high vibrations
  • extremely temperature resistant

The rapid development of the crane industry has led to the wider use of slip rings and the requirements have become higher and higher. There are also requirements for protection level, wire size, bellows material, and service life. As a key part of the crane, the slip ring needs to be selected very carefully.
